24x7 Alerting and Automated Service Recovery
In today's dynamic business environment, your clients expect nothing less than 24x7 availability. When a problem occurs with a mission-critical service you need to know about it immediately so that you can correct the problem before it affects your clients and your business.
Alerting, escalation, and automated service recovery options are very powerful management and server monitoring tools built into up.time that will increase your service levels and your relationship with end users. These features allow for automated reaction to problems detected by up.time monitors in response to outages, performance thresholds or whatever else is important to you.
Know about potential service outages before they occur ...
up.time will let the right people know about potential problems at the right time by sending alerts to
- An email address
- A mobile phone
- A desktop via a Windows pop-up message
- A pager
up.time recovers your critical services ... even while you sleep
up.time will do the work for you even while you are sleeping at night and increase your IT service uptime with powerful automated service recovery features including:
- Stopping & Re-Starting Critical Services
- Automatic Execution of your Own Custom Recovery Scripts
- Sending SNMP Traps to Notify Other Applications (e.g. Problem Management Systems)
- Logging Events to a File for Detailed Analysis
Automatic Escalation ... to get the right people in the loop
up.time sends an alert whenever the status of a host or a service changes. You can also configure automatic alert escalations that occur if an alert is not dealt with. So, if an alert is sent to a system administrator and the administrator does not attend to the problem within a specified amount of time, then the alert will be sent to the administrator’s manager.
You can ensure that a specific group of users in your enterprise receives certain notifications by defining notification groups. When defining a notification group, you can indicate both which users will receive alerts and the alert profile that will be used to react to the problems. The diagram to the right illustrates how notification groups fit into up.time's alerting framework:
Intelligent Alerting ... will never “cry wolf” with false alerts
False alerts make it hard to trust any application , service or server monitoring system and users responding to them will surely not be impressed.
With up.time your worries are over since up.time understands server and network topological dependencies and eliminates false notifications with true rule-based intelligent alerting.
Detailed Diagnostics ... to isolate the root-cause quickly
Unlike many low-end tools in the marketplace, up.time offers enterprise-class alerting and diagnostic reports, including:
- The type of notification
- The date and time on which the problem occurred
- The name of the host on which the problem occurred
- The name of the service that is experiencing the problem
- The current status of the host and the service
- Any output from the monitor that is watching the service or host
Custom Alert Formats ... to get notified the way YOU want
up.time's standard alert format is well suited for most of your alerting needs. However, up.time also includes three custom alert templates to give you flexibility. By adding variables to or removing them from, a template you can change the content of an alert. You can, for example, set up an alert that only includes the following information:
- The status of the service or host
- The type of alert
- The output from the up.time service monitor
- A short message to the recipient
